The Grunnet Family

The Grunnet Family can date its roots back to the 15th century Denmark. The name originates from two farms close to Vejle on the peninsula of Jutland. The name is considered to be rare, since it it not derived from a christian name, a word, or a common placename as is often the case with surnames. Thus if you yourself (or somebody you know) carry this name, there is good reason to believe that your ancestry can be tracked back to this lineage.

The maintainers of this site are Danes ourselves. We have a copy of the 1956 book called "A family of the lineage Grunnet" (En familie af slægten Grunnet), documenting lineage back to around 1450. We are working on bringing this material online, as the basis for this project. This book shows that quite a few Grunnets have moved abroad, mostly to America to settle, during the last centuries. This is the reason that we keep this information in English -- hoping that some of our distant foreign relatives might help document the whereabouts of our common ancestors.

The communication technology of today makes it more possible than ever to actually figure out how old families are connected. This space is devoted to the documentation of the Grunnet Family.

If you happen to know anything that can add to this mosaic, or are interested in helping uncover new material, please let us know.

This is the kind of information that will forever be "under construction". You can at any time see the latest results here.
